From the page to the set
Deborah Henry wrote The Whipping Club, a novel of 1960s Dublin that earned a Kirkus starred review, a place on Kirkus Reviews’ Best of 2012 list, praise from Publishers Weekly, and a spot on Oprah’s Summer Reading list. With the help of The Authors Guild, every right to the book has come back to her, and she has written its screen adaptation, The Birds Will Sing.
Her second novel, Circle in the Water, follows an Irish immigrant through Depression-era New York and is the basis for King of Hell’s Kitchen, now in development. Her children’s book, Watch Her Shine, set in Uganda’s Bwindi Forest, was published first in Uganda and Kenya to benefit the Bambino Life Foundation. She co-wrote and appears in the comedy drama Cross Talk, filmed in the United Kingdom.
She holds an MFA from Fairfield University, has appeared as a guest on NBC, FOX, and CBS television and on radio nationwide, is a member of The Academy of American Poets and a patron of the Irish Arts Center in New York, and founded the Deborah Henry Scholarship Fund for the Abroad Writers Conference in Dublin. She divides her time between New York, Florida, and Utah, and Ireland whenever she can.

Deborah Henry is the author of the Oprah Summer Reading selection The Whipping Club, the novel Circle in the Water, and the children’s book Watch Her Shine. A screenwriter and producer, she is adapting her own novels for film and co-wrote the comedy drama Cross Talk. She lives between New York, Florida, and Utah.
